About this place
At Genji, part of the pleasure is choosing a favourite from Japanese, Western and Chinese cooking. One guest who visited with family for a special occasion said they enjoyed having the chance to pick a different dish each. Seafood options include Hachinohe mackerel served as a smoked salad, bonito cutlet in a medium carpaccio style, and alfonsino acqua pazza. You could start with a few appetisers while deciding what to try.
The assorted appetisers bring together 5–6 varieties of chilled dishes, with Japanese and Western offerings arranged in a colourful spread. Choosing where to begin is part of the fun, and the platter makes a lively start to a meal shared by a group.
At lunchtime, diners can choose from courses, set meals and bentos. One guest who ordered a course enjoyed appetisers, pasta, soup and bread, followed by a choice of fish or meat for the main, then rice, miso soup and coffee. The combination of a Western-style course with rice and miso soup may suit anyone keen to sample a range of dishes. Another diner recalled enjoying a bento with 10 items, including several dishes with unusual seasonings and others they couldn’t name but found delicious. Private rooms are available, and the restaurant also lists children’s menus and baby chairs, making it an option for a meal with family or a group.
